Download your Apple purchase history

Apple lets you request a copy of the purchases attached to your Apple ID. Once you have that export, MovieCellar can match each Apple-TV film in your collection to what you actually paid — unlocking real savings numbers.

Why do this?

When you sync MovieCellar with your Apple TV library we learn what you own, but not what you paid. Without that data we fall back to the current retail price, so your "retail value" looks right but "you paid" stays empty.

Apple's purchase-history export plugs that gap. Once you import it, MovieCellar has a real acquisition cost for every film — and the home dashboard switches on the Saved totals.

How to request your data from Apple

  1. Visit privacy.apple.com and sign in with the Apple ID you use for iTunes and Apple TV purchases.
  2. Under Manage your data, choose Request a copy of your data.
  3. Tick the box for App Store, iTunes Store, Apple Books and Apple Music. You can uncheck everything else.
  4. Pick the default maximum file size (1 GB is plenty) and submit the request.
  5. Apple will email you when the archive is ready — usually within 24 hours to 7 days. The email contains a download link that expires after about two weeks, so don't sit on it.

What to upload to MovieCellar

Apple's archive is a zip containing CSV files. The file you want is iTunes Purchase History (sometimes named Store - Purchase History.csv depending on the year of your export). It lists every iTunes / App Store / Apple TV purchase with a price and a date.

Head to Settings → Import and drop the CSV there. We only ever read the Film / TV rows and match them to films you already have in your collection.

What we do with it

  • Match each purchase to the corresponding film in your collection.
  • Store the purchase price + date on your collection entry.
  • Recompute the Value Hero, Stats Grid, and Analytics so "You paid" and "Saved" reflect real numbers.

The raw CSV is deleted after processing. We keep the matched amounts, not the file.
